Whenever I join an Xbox party on my PC, I can hear all of my friends, but they can't hear me unless I have the Xbox Overlay pulled up. I have made sure I am not connected to a VPN, restarted my computer, played around with the settings in the Overlay, etc. but I cannot find the issue. I have looked for the answers, but everywhere doesn't mention this issue.

    Hello Canaan,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We understand you are having issues with the party chat on PC. There are a few possible causes for this problem, such as your microphone settings, your privacy settings, or your network settings. Here are some steps you can try to fix it:

    1. Check your microphone settings: Make sure that your microphone is set as the default recording device on your PC. To do this, right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Sounds." Then, click on the "Recording" tab and make sure that your microphone is selected and set as the default device.

    2. Check your privacy settings: Make sure that the Xbox app has access to your microphone. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone and make sure that the toggle switch for "Allow apps to access your microphone" is turned on. Windows Settings > Privacy > Microphone and make sure Xbox Game Bar and Xbox Console Companion are allowed to access your microphone.

    3. Check your Xbox app settings: Open the Xbox app and go to Settings > General > Volume & audio output. Make sure that your microphone is selected as the default recording device and that the volume is turned up.

    4. Update your audio drivers: Make sure that your audio drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest drivers for your specific model.

    5. Check Game Bar: Game bar app and go to Settings. Under Audio, make sure that the correct microphone is selected as the default device. Exit the Game bar app and open the Xbox app. Go to Settings and select Devices & streaming. Under Audio, make sure that the correct microphone is selected as the default device. Test your microphone in the Xbox app to see if your party can hear you without the Game bar app open.

I hope this helps! If you’re still having trouble, please let me know we will do our best to help you resolve this issue as soon as possible.

    Have a great day!

Party Chat Trouble Exclamation Point Triangle

This is really starting to piss me off, I don't know what's going on.. my party chat was working absolutely fine and then all of a sudden people can't hear me in the party chat.

So if I join a party and I have the Xbox Game bar on the screen and can view the party people can hear me

However if I don't have xbox game bar on my screen they cannot hear me but I can still hear them? ( its like something isn't allowing it to run in the background )

I can hear people in Xbox party chat, but they can't hear me if I exit game bar.

That's not really my issue. My friends can hear me while I have Game Bar up on screen. As soon as I exit and play my game, my friends can't hear me. I just figured out that if I pin the party chat widget on game bar so it stays there when I exit game bar, my friends will still be able to hear me. For now that's what I'll stick with, but I'd like to be able to remove the party chat widget from my screen.

XBOX on Windows 10 - Microphone does not work

Just so that I am clear when you are trying this in party chat? In game chat?

You can hear the other players in the chat but they can not hear you?

Are you starting the party through the stream on the xbox itself? Or are you starting the party through the xbox app on the pc itself?

    These are two different things.

I personally have noticed that if I try and join a party through the Xbox itself and not the xbox app I can hear the other people but they can not hear me. If I join the party or start a party and have people join through the xbox app on the PC then it works
    fine.

So try that and see if that fixes your problem.
