No longer getting Surround sound when watching TV through XBO

Broken for me too. If left on Uncompressed 5.1 I only get stereo from my TV receiver. If I switch from Uncompressed 5.1 to Bitstream using DTS, it SOMETIMES works and sometimes completely crashes the video and I have to power cycle. This is garbage.

 

This is now absolutely ridiculous

This is now the 3rd time I lost surround sound, and like the OP I have the same exact problem only my front 2 speakers work.

This whole time I have had nothing but problems for Xbox one, for a system they want to be an "all in one" they are sure doing the worst possible job with having surround sound not working and having to unplug the xbox every time you watch tv for too long
because it gets really slow and the the controls stop working.

It's so obvious, I remember a Microsoft executive saying "we did not expect people would be watching so much TV through our xbox one" yeah well it's painfully obvious as your system is nowhere near ready and you just rushed it out because Sony was kicking
your *** and got to realize theirs sooner and they have nowhere near the problems if Xbox one.

I am trading my console in for a PS4 I refuse to pay for Microsofts terrible business choices, they put out a half assed system and tried to milk us for even more money on top of it with the horrid DRM policy that were changed prior to launch. It's all too
clear now they DONT GIVE A *** ABOUT US!

 

I'm having this problem now as well, I have an open ticket with MS. Good to know that a new system won't fix anything. I had to go optical to keep surround working.

 

I HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUE!

Microsoft KNEW they couldn't delay the xbox one anymore due to PS4s fast release so they had to ship it without freaking DOLBY DIGITAL! What is this 1991? And the executive actually had the NERVE to lie and say it was a "software scheduling issue" does he
really take us consumers for idiots? They tried to slip that through right before launch they knew it would be devastating news so they held off until ONE DAY BEFORE LAUNCH! No wonder sony is kicking their butts and they have a stronger console with WORKING
Dolby digital and anything else you could want! here is the direct quote from the polygon .com article

Ok everyone, I was able to fix this yesterday with a support tech from MS. The support pages have not been updated and it looks like the HDMI Surround has moved out of beta and into production. I was able to go into the settings for the TV/One Guide and
change the audio settings there from "Stereo" to "Surround Sound", an option I don't think was there before. This configures the input of your video, 720, surround sound, etc. If the wrong thing is selected here, the Xbox will not output anything right because
it doesn't know what it's getting in. As soon as I made the change, and since my output settings were already good, Dolby started right up as soon as my Xbox finished rebooting.

We can debate how friendly this is to users, but it's how it's working for me and I thought I would post.

 

I had this issue and set everything to bitstream and turned on surround sound in the system menu. I haven't had any issues and I regularly switch between DTS and Dolby.

 

I feel your pain guys and girls, absolutely shocking for an "all-in-one" system not to let us have surround sound.
