No longer getting Surround sound when watching TV through XBO

Sometime in the last few days I Stopped getting surround sound when I watch TV.

I noticed all of a sudden it got quite, I did not pay too much attention to it, but it soon got annoying.

I usually have my receiver set to 30ish, I noticed I needed it set to 45+ (which is very loud for my system).

Upon investigation I noticed I was not getting sound from my rears and from the center. Only the left and right fronts.

So I went digging around in the settings, the "Beta" option was still selected.

I did notice I was able to set up my receiver now (in Canada) So I went ahead and did that.

(I admit I do not like the one guide, but it is useful for turning on/off my rogers box).

I am guessing there was some sort of update.

Did Microsoft break the Surround sound for TV ?

(I turn the Beta option off and on again but that did not help).

Any suggestions ?

XBOX One won't pass surround sound through HDMI Pass through..

So no surround sound when watching tv? What were they thinking?

Ya i plug my surround sound system through digital optical and all I get is distorted sound occasionally (crackles) and no 5.1 . There are no crackles through my tv to surround or xbox 360 through surround. I will be sending this unit back if no sound
update fixes this but not until I test it a little longer.

 

It appears so.. I just noticed it today.. ridiculous!!! My setup was fine until they had to go f around w/ it..

wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem. Prior to the April update I was getting 5.1 surround through the cable box etc. After the update I'm only getting 2.0 stereo sound. My setup is all through HDMI and is sent through my receiver. When
I plugged the cable box into it's own HDMI port the 5.1 came back. The same problem is happening w/ Netflix but when I play a blu ray on the xbox it works fine.. WTF happened?!?

 

I changed my output to bitstream out for hdmi and I am getting dolby surround sound with xfinity again. None of the other settings works, I have a newer very nice Sony Amp.

 

They actually are replacing my console..My disc drive stopped working yesterday as well.. MS said it was a problem the way the update applied and they can't roll back updates once installed.

 

I have the same problem since the last update. It seems to be OK when I boot my xbox, but once I change the input on my receiver and switch it back it's stuck in stereo until I reboot the xbox. Something in the last update definitely broke surround sound
for TV watching.

 

Yes it did.. Not only for tv though for any app and games also.. I'll let everyone know if the new one is working right tomorrow when it gets here

 

I got the new one.. and it's the same problem.. The console was sending 5.1 until it updated during initial setup... definitely something the update *** up...

 

I've had this as well and nothing changed except the update. I went through and double checked all settings in addition to a few hard resets. Any official word? I found a reddit post about this issue in addition to a few others on here but nothing recent.
I noticed there is no more static or pops which is nice, but I'd rather have surround sound.

 

I haven't heard anything.. The only work around I found was that I had to buy an optical cable, check the box for 'surround sound beta' under troubleshooting TV and turn off the HDMI audio out to optical.. This fixed the issue but honestly I shouldn't of
had to do this when the HDMI was working fine until the update..

 

Except even with the optical cable the surround sound is gone once you switch inputs on your receiver (if you have one). I.e. I switch inputs between my 360 and one quite often and as soon as I return to my xbox one the surround sound is gone until I restart
the system. So there's definitely a MAJOR bug with the last update.

 

Just as an update, my 5.1 came back after another patch update but I do seem to get a lot of popping and crackle sounds from my speakers.. could be because of my receiver. I will have to test it out once I get motivated enough lol

 

Well... it is back... I mean to say no more surround sound again from the TV.

Pretty sure since there was just an update and this stopped working that the update did this again.

 

I am having the same problem. Everything work perfectly when I am using Xbox apps but when I go to the tv app it gets really quiet and I have to go from 30 to 45 just to be able to hear my tv. Any solutions would help.
