Newly Purchased Xbox Elite Core Controller - Update Challenge

Hey Microsoft Support team,

Hope you're doing awesome! Just got myself the new Xbox Elite Core Controller and the kit with it too, and I'm super excited about it. However, I'm hitting a little roadblock when trying to update it through the Xbox Accessory app.

Here's the lowdown:

Update Prompt: The app suggests a firmware update for my new controller.

Update Hurdles: But every time I try to go for it, things get a bit wonky, and the update doesn't quite go through.

Tried the usual suspects - double-checked my internet, restarted the PC and the controller, even gave the app a fresh install. Nada. Still hitting a snag. I've also followed the instuctions for another one with similar issues: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...y application from,the firmware one more time.

So, I'm reaching out to you, the wizards of Xbox support, for some guidance. Any tips, tricks, or secret handshakes to make sure my Elite Core Controller gets the update it deserves?

Thanks Noel. Yeah, the firmware update prompt kept appearing (even randomly in the middle of a game) for me as well. The update applied okay, but it’s just the regular Series X|S controller and not Elite model.

Hi Noel, I’m Ryan.

Have you tried to update your controller on an Xbox One or Series X|S? If you don’t have an Xbox console, perhaps ask a friend or family member if you can try this on theirs.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your quick response. I appreciate your suggestion, but unfortunately, I don’t have an Xbox console and I couldn’t find a friend or family member who has one either. I’ve tried the recommended troubleshooting steps in the support article you provided, but I’m still unable to update my Xbox Elite Core Controller.

I’m really looking forward to using my new controller with the latest firmware. Is there any other way I can update it without an Xbox console?

Thanks for confirming. You can only update an Xbox controller on Xbox or PC (either on a wired connection with the USB cable or wirelessly). Are you able to successfully update another controller (perhaps a difference model), or does the same error occur?

If the issue still persists, you’d need to request a replacement:

Is there a specific reason as to why you want to update your controller? You can always try again another time but if you’re not experiencing any performance issues or anything, I honestly wouldn’t worry about it

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your continued assistance. I've tried updating my controller both wired and wirelessly on my PC, but unfortunately, the issue persists. I don't have another Xbox controller to test, so I can't confirm if the problem is specific to my Elite Core Controller.

The reason for the update is that it's necessary for me to use the app to remap back buttons and adjust settings on my controller. Whenever I open the Xbox Accessory app, it prompts me with an "update required" message, and that's when it won't update and stays stuck on 0%.

It's not causing any significant problems with the controller itself to work, but I would love to be able to do the customizations the app offers. Do you have any suggestions on how I can contact Xbox Support to get further assistance with this issue?

I might need to wait for a bit. I'll explore the replacement option if needed. In the meantime, I'll follow your advice and not worry too much about it for now.
