    New Xbox Wireless Headset Microphone Quality


    I have the new (released March 2021) Xbox Wireless Headset along with the wireless adapter for Windows 10.

    I'm using this on a Lenovo laptop and the reason why I got it was for Teams calls.

    First, let me say that I love this headset. It's comfortable, and the quality of the speakers inside sound great!

    The problem I have is that the quality of the microphone (my voice on calls) is not that great. I mean, it's acceptable, but for a brand new device like this I was expecting better.

    My voice (according to callers, and I can confirm using the Voice Recorder app) sounds compressed. I work in a very quiet office and it sounds like it is trying to do some advanced voice isolation or noice cancellation where it doesn't need to.

    I downloaded the Xbox Accessories app and there are no firmware updates, and while there are other options to configure for it, none of them affect the mic quality, including Auto Mute (seems to only affect when I am not speaking).

    I am hoping that Microsoft provides a firmware update that offers some settings for the mic itself, as they've done a great job with options for the cans/speakers. Perhaps a setting to adjust voice isolation with 4 options? Off, Low, Medium, High?

    I feel like the problem isn't the mic itself, but rather the firmware/software.

    Does anyone have any suggestions, or is this just a situation where I have to hope Microsoft hears me and updates the firmware?

    I would not recommend a Razer headset, yes they do have an xbox 360 headset. Reason is the microphone is too sensitive.

    I also do not recommend any of the astro headsets as mine broke pretty fast, and the microphone's quality is terrible.

    I do recommend turtle beach headsets. In my opinion they have the best quality, are the most comfortable, and sound the greatest. And the microphone is fantastic, especially with the voice playback.

    But be aware that the cords for all the wired turtle beach headsets can break fast, but they're cheap.

    As of now I own the turtle beach xp500, and I love it. If you are willing to wait on a headset turtle beach just announced the xp400 and xp300 recently at CES2012. And from what I understand the xp400 is an upgrade to the xp500.

    Yes, the USB port do stay on to power as most people who play on the Xbox will charge their accessories after using the console such as the Wireless Microphone or battery pack. I personally charge my phone, wireless microphone and headset off the console
    with no issues.
