  1. New Xbox wireless controller won't connect to my Windows 10

Few days ago I got a new Xbox wireless controller, I've connected it to one Windows 10 laptop and it worked perfectly. Few days later I tried connecting it to another Windows 10 laptop and it doesn't work. Batteries are new, the controller was used only for 3 hours, it seems to be working properly when turned on and when in sync mode it appears on the "add device" section on my bluetooth settings, but when I try to connect it, it says "failed, try again". I tried connecting it with a cable and updating it on the Xbox accessories app, which worked, the controller works when cable connected, but even after the update it wouldn't connect wirelessly on my laptop. I tried updating my windows and devices over device manager, everything is up to date. I tried restarting the laptop and the controller, nothing changed. I really don't know what else I can do.

    :)

Does the newer controller (with Bluetooth support) still be able to use the wireless receiver?

Hello Ana M, my name is Oskayra, and I will be happy to help you.

Beforehand, it is important that you keep in mind that this is a public community forum, so we are players like you, we are not employees of Microsoft or Xbox, so we do not have access to any user account or check anything from the forum. All users help each other with common problems.

I am very sorry for the problem you are going through, with the intention of being able to help you I did an internal search on the Microsoft forum and found a post by Leonardo_Y Microsoft Moderator, where he suggests the following steps to try to solve the problem:

Until now, you can try the troubleshooting below and let us know if the issue is resolved or not.

    Install Windows Update

    - Go to Start menu -> Settings -> Update & Security -> run any pending Windows updates

    1) Settings > devices > Bluetooth and other devices

Find The Xbox Wireless Controller and Remove Device.

    2) Windows Search > Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices

Search for “Human Interface Devices” and uninstall the HID-compliant game controller.

*Important "Show hidden" or you will not find it since the device is offline*

    3) Go through the normal pairing process. *Activate Bluetooth*

Settings > Devices > Bluetooth and other devices > "Add Bluetooth or other device" > Bluetooth. Don't use "Everything Else" even if it says Xbox controllers.

    4) Turn on the Xbox controller and press the sync button. You should now be able to pair AND connect to your computer.

    Sincerely,
    Oskayra.

    Hello SARAHkerrigan,

Thank you for your post. I understand you are looking to connect a controller to your Windows 10 PC. The first version of the Xbox One wireless controller is not Bluetooth compatible which may explain the difficulty you are experiencing connecting it to
your Windows 10 PC. Fore more information, please visit this page:

Can the X Box One Wireless Controller with Bluetooth also be used with the X Box One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10?

    Hi Beau,

Thank you for coming to the Xbox forums, I'd be happy to answer that.

The Xbox One Wireless controller with Bluetooth can be connected to a Windows 10 PC with a USB cable, Bluetooth, or with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, so yes, it can be connected via the adapter. The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 is not
compatible with an Xbox 360 controller and will need the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. I'll provide the support articles with this information:

    I hope this helps!
