New Xbox Series X causing network instability

Bought an Xbox Series X off of amazon (Microsoft Store on amazon) for $499, was a deal I couldn't pass up. I have had an Xbox One for years, no real issues.

While setting up the Series X I connected it to the Wifi (5ghz) with no issues. I started downloading a game or 2 from my library/game pass and it was slow (Laptop in same room gets 500mbps+ on the same channel) but I noticed that my phone/laptop were having network issues as well, so I assumed it was the network.

I have an ethernet port next to the TV, so I hard wired it. No real difference in download speeds (around 30-60mbps) on the Xbox.

The general network issues persisted (Wifi showing connected, but no internet) and I turned off the xbox/unplugged it to eliminate it as a possibility.
    Network comes back.

On my laptop I start running a ping in command prompt to google ( ping google.ca -t ) and watch as pings fill the screen as I would expect it to. Turn the Xbox on, and time spikes to time=3000ms+ before getting the "request timeout". I turn off the xbox, and the ping almost immediately resumes to normal.

So I've tried a few different things:
    1) Allowing the automatic connection with DHCP through our router both hardwired and wireless
    2) Setting a static IP outside of out DHCP scope on a free address
    3) On the patch panel switching from going through the switch to plugging directly into the router/ONT.

I found out that pausing all downloads on the xbox does NOT cause the network to drop out. Checking NAT type/connection with no downloads happening on the xbox show as open/good. However as soon as I resume the downloads the connection for other devices drops off. The DL speed of the xbox is only showing 30-60mbps of data. We have gigabit fiber coming in, and other devices can easily hit 500-900mbps depending on the connection/location.

I cant seem to find anything online regarding an issue that is even similar.

    :)

Xbox will use all available bandwidth, which is likely why your other devices are having issues.

well unfortunately the Xbox does not have the ability to set a van with a limit on the device, you can do so on your router. If you rent your router from your Internet provider, I suggest you call them and find out how to do this, or consult your manual

It could just be an issue with Microsoft's servers. Give it some time, I had similar issues with my Xbox One S when I first got it. It downloads at full speed now.

I also assumed it might be choking out the other devices, but its apparently pulling less than 60mbps.

The router has 1gb fiber coming in and then a 48 port enterprise level switch with gigabit ports that goes to a patch panel with Cat5e/Cat6 cabling. Normally 500mbps would be a slow speed for anything else on the network. I feel like it might be flooding the network with packets for some awful reason. Going to get into the router programming this evening. Half posted for my own sanity, see if anyone else has ran into a similar issue

The issue isn't that the Xbox is downloading slow, the issue is that when it is downloading its causing the network to be unusable by other devices, even as far as simple pings

Why do I get sign-in network errors?

Hello SherpaDC, My name is David. I am an independent advisor, happy to help you today.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing network issues when signing in on your Xbox Series X. Here are some possible causes and solutions you could try:

Network connectivity issues Although you mention that other devices on the same Wi-Fi network are working correctly, there may still be specific issues with your Xbox Series X's network connection. Try the following:

Restart your router and your Xbox Series X.
Verify that the Xbox Series X is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and that the signal is strong.
Consider connecting your Xbox Series X directly to the router via an Ethernet cable to rule out wireless connectivity issues.
If possible, try a different Wi-Fi network to see if the issue persists.

Xbox Live account issues: There may be a problem with your Xbox Live account that is causing the sign-in errors. Try the following:

Verify that your login credentials (email and password) are correct. You can try to reset your password through the Xbox website.

Make sure there are no restrictions or blocks on your Xbox Live account, such as pending payments or suspensions.
Consider creating a new Xbox Live account temporarily to check if the issue persists. This will help determine if the issue is related to your specific account.
Network settings issues: Check the network settings on your Xbox Series X to make sure they are configured correctly. You can try the following:

Verify that the network settings on your Xbox Series X match the network settings on your router.
Make sure there are no firewall restrictions or MAC address filtering that could block your Xbox Series X from connecting.
Try resetting the network settings on your Xbox Series X and setting it up again from scratch.

    Best regards.
