New Update messed up Xbox 360 controllers when used with windows.

Hi,

I have used multiple wireless Xbox 360 controllers on my computer for a long while now. They have been fantastic. Well recently as I was playing Elden Ring I kept getting tabbed out. I had no idea what the issue was and got angry and investigated...

TURNS OUT Windows has pushed out an update that has made that happen constantly with all Xbox controllers and a simple firmware update on the controllers will fix the issue which can be done by installing the Xbox Accessories application on your computer...

Now here is he clincher.... IT ONLY WORKS FOR XBOX 1 or Newer controllers.... leaving me in the dark. It will not connect to Xbox 360 Controllers.

So here are the details. I have a Xbox 360 receiver that I bought a while back to connect to my wireless controllers via usb. I have to go to Device Manager and install the driver from a list there. The latest driver came out in 2019. It works great. Tried reinstalling it and everything. But it still doesn't fix the issue.

Okay, in that case you may need to downgrade to Windows 21H1 (in order to see if you're able to use your controller properly)

open Settings and go to Update & Security > Windows Updates > View update history > Uninstall updates.

Uninstall the latest feature update.

After that reboot your PC if prompted > press Windows+R and type winver and see if now it's not saying 21H2

If that doesn't work, open Settings and go to Update & Security > Recovery.

Click on Get Started under Go back to previous build of Windows.

SaphDartis, unfortunately the new accessories app is only compatible with Xbox One controllers and new controllers.

As you said, the latest firmware for xbox controller is the one that was released on 2019.

If your controller is not working properly with Elden Ring or newer games this means that developers doesn't fully support 360 controllers now.

In situations like this you could try using a third party tool like xinput to see if you're able to play properly with the controller.

But other than that there is not much that you can do due to Xbox 360 and all things related to it are not supported now

Which windows 10 version do you have?
Select the Start button > Settings > System > About

Something like 21H2, 21H1 etc

I see, SaphDartis in this case the best option will be install a previous Windows version.

Are you on Windows 10 or 11?

Hi Josef!

Thank you for replying so quickly. So the controller has been working properly and not having any issues until this week after I installed a windows update. So I don't think it has anything to do with the games in question. The Xbox 360 controller receiver (usb) which I use is by TTX Tech and has never had problems either. So yeah, I if I understand you correctly I already am using a third party with that receiver.
