New to XBox and have questions about Remote Play

i also have a question or certain questions about the remote play. i want to really understand how remote play functions like all the ins and outs. so my first question is, are you allowed to use remote play when the console is off? because i tried the opposite of that Friday and it worked but if i were to turn the console completely off am i still able to access my games and play them through the Xbox app when the system is turned off?

Sorry. But as my original post said, I am trying to do this through my phone to access remote play. Although I do have one more question.

Does having a password on your Xbox prevent remote play?

Thank you both! Think she can live with not being able to power on/off and volume, if she can navigate Netflix. It's kind of a bummer using the X Box controller as a remote as it always powers down. Heck, I've fallen asleep with her controller watching movies
late at night. Lol.

Yes it is true you cannot power off or up the volume without connect due to how the volume feature works. You are controlling the volume via the infared signal in Kinect talking to your TV same with powering ON/off. Channel changing/menu changing and media
playback all work as the tuners are either coming from an app in X1 or vias USB tuners. The actual TV is separate. Hope that makes sense.
