Just purchased a new monitor ( Samsung Odyssey G5 lc34g55twwpxxu) and i am trying to set up 1440p at 120hz. Initially in the Tv and display options, no option for refresh rate is shown. (to note i am using the HDMI cable provided with the Xbox) I found a workaround for this, set up the HDMI override. Now i am able to set a refresh rate. I can only set 120hz when the resolution is at 1080p. 1440p is locked at 60hz. My integrated monitor settings are also locked to 100hz. I have tested this on my PC and i get 165hz (displayport cable) I have seen lots of people with a similar issue 2-3 years ago but no fix seems to work. If there is no fix then i will have to re-fund my monitor as not having 1440p 120hz is a dealbreaker. Any help would be appreciated!

    :)

New Monitor will only go up to 1080p 120hz even though it is a 1440p 165hz monitor (Xbox series X)

    Hi,

Are you talking about this Monitor?

    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-g5-c34g55t

According to that review the max refresh over HDMI is only 100Hz

Also, it's not strictly a 1440P. This monitor is an ultra wide 3440 x 1440. a True 16:9 aspect 1440P monitor would be 2560x1440. Xbox does not support ultra wide so it will stretch the 2560x1440 to fill the display. Since monitors work best when running at their native resolution the picture will appear soft and odd looking.

There are many fine monitors you can use on the Xbox Series X, unfortunately, this is not one of them.

Ok thanks for your assistance. I will be returning the monitor. Would you recommend not getting an ultrawide? And is there a list of monitors that are compatible with the series X so I can avoid this problem.

I have recently brought a 165hz monitor to use with Xbox series s but I cannot turn on 165hz

Hi Arturo, I’ve tried 1080p with 120hz, and it doesn’t work. 720 didn’t work either. I’m using the hdmi cable that came with my Xbox series s. The monitor I am using with my Xbox is purchased new, and is 165hz and 1440p. Is the issue with the hdmi cable I am using or my monitor?

    Thanks

1440p or 1080p for new gen

How do you mean? It's a 165hz monitor can be overclocked to 180hz but to run that you need a pc even to get 165hz due to the consoles cap at the 120hz but it is a lg gp850b ips monitor from LG and it allows me to run 1440p at 120hz but I just wanted to know which would be better for FPS games like Siege etc like if 1440p would have more of an advantage than 1080p as there is a lack of information around regarding that and all I find is things about pc about lower res is better for frames but the consoles are optimised to the best of my knowledge for any resolution up to 4k at 120hz.

I'm tired of my fuzzy and pixelated gameplay.

I'm using the mobiuz EX2710Q monitor, it is a 1440p 144hz or 165hz, I dont remember. I play and put the settings on 1440p and 120hz
