The possibility of using 20MHz or 40MHz on this device is based on the current mode selected. If the devices' mode is set to "Up to 300Mbps" the channel width will likely switch between 20MHz and 40MHz depending on surrounding interference. To set the wireless
band to 20MHz only, follow these steps.

    1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
    2. Open web browser.
    3. Login to router by entering Router login in to the address bar or by entering the default gateway IP address.
    4. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. The default user name and password are: "admin", "password".
    5. Select Wireless settings from the left hand menu under Setup.
    6. Select from the mode drop down "Up to 217Mbps" or lower.
    7. Select Apply.

The ability to change the wireless band (width) is not available on this device. It may switch between 20MHz and 40MHz based on surrounding wireless signals.

    Xbox One unreliable with 5ghz?

    Greetings The Phantom Jug!

Appreciate if you could post up the make and model of your modem.

Visit Netgear website and make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

Which wireless mode have you setup for your Netgear router?

Do you use WPA2-PSK AES only, or mixed with TKIP?

Could you manually change the wireless channel for the 5 Ghz band, if this is set to auto. The listed channels should be within the non-overlapping range.

    Thank you!

    Which Router for XBOX?

Well I have been told this is one of the better routers to get for gaming. It isn't horribly expensive either.
