    Netflix doesn't play in HD over Component


    Wtf is this? I didn't have this problem back in 2012 but now for some reason it only goes up to 480 SD and the only way I can watch Netflix in HD is if I use HDMI but if I do I won't be able to get audio through my x12s since I don't have the adapter. Neither
    Hulu nor Amazon Instant Video have this problem so why is this even an issue?

    component cable ?

    If you use anything like Netflix or hulu plus that provide HD content, using a component cable will force the HD content to 480i. Unless you have a console that doesn't have an HDMI port, use an HDMI cable instead.

    Anyone get HD on Netflix on component cables anymore?

    If you connect over component cables for Netflix, can you check if you get HD, using the following procedure:

    Start any HD show or movie, e.g., Archer.

    Click the right stick, which brings up show info, including resolution. Does the second line ever get better than 480 SH, e.g., 720p?

    It seems like the last Netflix update may have broken HD in this scenario, but it would be to see if
    anyone gets HD over component after the November update, or if the problem is universal. Depending on your viewing distance, the difference between 480 SD and 720p might not be that obvious, so it's possible you've lost HD and don't even know it.

    think, when using component, the Netflix App shows 480 but really runs 720. My audio check is Ok. I hooked up my 5.1 headset and it's receiving 5.1 through the xbox fine, so it's related to the Xbox app and the component cables.. Shouldn't matter but maybe
    they'll fix the issue someday. Whenever I try to bring this up with Netflix they blow me off about the issue...

    The VGA cable supports everything at 1080p and does not require HDCP. The same goes for the Component cable for games. HD DVD is limited to 1080i over Component. DVD is limited to 480p over Component. I don't think there are any resolution restrictions for
    streamed video over Component.

    You mean Component HD right? There is no such thing as Composite HD. If you want the best picture possible you should be using HDMI. Component HD is analogue, HDMI is digital. Also HDMI will upscale standard definition DVD movies, component HD will only
    play them in 480p.

    There is little difference between Component (red, green, and blue RCA cables) and HDMI when it comes to games. Both support 1080p. You may see differences if you watch DVDs or HD DVDs. DVD upscaling beyond 480p isn't available over component. HD DVD is
    limited to 1080i over Component.



    Unless you have a TV that only has Component, you're usually better off with HDMI. Less cable clutter, the cable itself should be less expensive, and there are many TVs that don't support 1080p over Component.
