The link is a long shot and may not list the game on the account. If it doesn't, then it means that the refund is not available for the game. However, if support have told you that you will not be eligible for a refund, then there is nothing more you can do. All refunds will go through the link I have provided above. When you go through the refund process, it will be sent off to someone at Microsoft to review and decide whether you get a refund. This will be in accordance with their refund policy.

The system will accept the code regardless of whether you have a device which is compatible with the game. It will then put the game on your account where you can choose to download it on a system which is compatible for the game/product. Thus, according to the system, it has successfully redeemed itself and is now your sons.

I am sorry that I can't bring better news. The content will be on their account for ever. So, when they do get an Xbox Series X or S, they will be able to download and play the game.

Since the code has been redeemed, it is no longer eligible for a refund.

Unfortunately once the game is redeemed, there is no way to refund it.

When you purchase games, the description does show what platform the game will work on.
