need to change gamertag but don't own Xbox

I don't own an Xbox gaming system but I need to change my gamertag. I had been told before that i could buy a Microsoft Xbox gift card but I'm not sure if the gift card funds could be used to change the gamertag or not and if I could redeem the gift card on the mobile app.

You can use funds from a gift card to change your tag, you just have to make sure you put on enough to cover tax also. You can also just use a credit card or Paypal as well. If you do use a gift card, you can redeem it at http://redeem.microsoft.com

Well how do i get a Gamertag name change if i don't own a xbox? The only way to change a Gamertag so far as i know is by changing the Gamertag on the Xbox, but i can't do that as i don't own one.

And i didn't see your answer, because i was busy writing the second part of my issue on the other account, to prove i own both accounts.

I'd like to change my gamertag too, but I can't because I don't own Xbox.

Gfwl gamertag changing is not working because there are still Microsoft Points and it's not updated.

Yeah, it just takes me "how to change your gamertag on Xbox 360 / Xbox One" page. I only own Microsoft games on PC and don't own a console.

You could try changing the primary email account with the Gamertag. You will need to set him up an email of his own and then change the email address associated with the Xbox Live account. This should release your email from his gamertag, you may need
to change the family settings first.
