A redemption code is needed to download it you should recieve the code via message within 10 days

Gold is sent to you as a code after you redeem the points, not automatically added to your account. If you didn't get a code, check your order history on the redemption page and it'll either have the option to resend the code or it will list the code there. If not, you'll need to contact Rewards support via the contact link at the bottom of the redemption site.

My understanding was the redemption code needed to be entered on the website to get the guide rather than via XBL.
