Need help with xbox one x controller

So I bought this xbox one x on black friday. The console works just fine but the controller is giving me a world of problems. It frequently goes into a "dead" state: the lights are on, the connection is on, but NOT RESPONDING. This would take about 20
or 30s and it would go back to normal. This doesn't fit into any of the frequent question criteria, so looking for help here. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I think I know that happened here. So even though the home button is still lit, the controller LOST CONNECTION every a few minutes. Got to return this, no other ways to it then. I found this when in my xbox accessories, when that controller is not
responding, only my elite controller is shown as active.

Have you tried updating the controller? That usually fixes issues like this.

Thank you for the speedy reply. However, all methods prove in vain except i have to input all those account and passphrase again. The controller still lose connection often. So, is it possible to get a return for controller only?

Ive already tried that but thanks anyway. Guess ill just have to return the controller.
