Need help on unformatting an external HD that's been formatted to Xbox one

It sounds that the external HD may have gotten corrupted causing the Xbox One to shutdown since you are able to use the console fine without the external HD plugged in.

Do you happen to have another external HD that meets the requirements for testing purposes? Or would you happen to be able to try that HD on another Xbox?

You may need to delete what you have on there, re-format the HD for the Xbox One, and then download what you had on there again.

You would need an external drive to play HD-DVDs, as the Blu-Ray drive in the Xbox One cannot possibly read the HD-DVD format. Since HD-DVDs are no longer being made, I'd say it's extremely unlikely that HD-DVD support will be added to the Xbox One.

Thanks for the update on your issue. If the disk is reading unformatted, then it will need to be formatted. The content on the HD is basically already gone. This is due to somehow the HD has become corrupt. SO in order to get it working correctly, you will
need to format the drive again. If all the data is gone, we recommend to
enable cloud saves.

I will go ahead and format the flash drive as you suggest. I just wanted to clarify as it seemed like two formatting steps.

And YES the internal console memory has read unformatted since day one and I could never get a straight answer if I should format to use this memory as we are discussing doing so for the flash cards, etc.

I have never saved anything to it as it has always given the message that it is unformatted. Updates have always been saved to the external flash memory.

Have not tried to format it. My fear was that formatting it would be irreversible and would be losing something like the os or something else needed to function.

Bought the console brand new last year for Christmas.
