Need help enabling Chat Headset mic on Xbox1

Just bought an Xbox1 1TB Forza Horizon 4 bundle. The controller is the newer style with 3.5mm and usb.

I just bought a brand new Xbox-brand "Chat Headset" (usb type) and can't get the mic working at all.

Tried all this:

Signing out and in of profile

Enabling "power saving" mode

Tried updating controller firmware, with and without mic plugged in

"Full restart" via menu

Hard reset with power cord out

Enabled all mic communication in privacy settings

Headset is well plugged-in and not loose anywhere

Blew out controller and headset plug with compressed air

Headset is recognized - it shows a headset icon when it's plugged in. The hardware mute button works and lights up orange. Volume controls work (for audio). Sound comes through the headset.

I'm unable to light up the circle in party that detects my mic. It's like it's turned off somewhere but I can't figure out where

In Controllers and Devices, the headset shows up (firmware 4.9.0), but the options to change volume, etc, are "greyed out". Also says it's not paired to any Xbox account, but I'm not able to navigate at all in this screen or select anything.

In Audio settings, there are no options to change mic volume etc. Same for Controllers/Devices.

Extremely frustrated and have been failing on this for several hours. Thanks for taking the time

Edit ok think I found the problem, my network NAT is "strict", uPNP disabled, however I'm on shared internet and don't have access to the router so guess there's nothing I can do?

Use Kinect in game to chat

Does anyone know how to chat in game using Kinect?
its showing no microphone I can hear chat but cant speak??
have the tritton warhead headphones and the mic doesn't work on it, I can hear sound but no chat so trying to do it through Kinect as I don't like using the xbox headset wth mic.

Hi sons xbox one headset mic not working new set hard booted console told us party chat blocked also checked enforcment no issue code 0x80072EE7 can you help on headset he can hear friends but mic not working

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I use a headset with a mixamp and need to use the connect for voice chat. Trying to figure out how to enable it and then how to mute/up mute the kinect mic during gameplay.

For compatible headsets, the stereo sparer will enable you to hear game sounds, chat sounds and talk to other gamers if your headset has a compatible mic.

To check headset/mic record a message and play it back. If that works then your headset/mic is fine. Then you will need to check and see if your chat settings are set to friends only.

So a couple questions I have is if you are in private chat or group chat with a headset/mic, do you give the XB1 commands through the headset/mic or via the Kinect mic? Also, if you are in private chat or group chat via the Kinect mic, can you still give
commands to the XB1 through the Kinect mic?
