Need help diagnosing - Is it my mic or is it the adapter?

Hello everyone, my headset recently stopped working and I'm trying to figure out if my mic is bad or if its the adapter. A year ago I stopped hearing my friends through my headset and the only way that I could hear them was through
my tv, but starting today my friends can't hear me at all, I can still hear them through my tv though. So I'm wondering if its the mic part or if its the adapter piece. If I move my headset cord around, in certain spots my friends can hear me, so if that
better helps you to identify what the problem might be. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I never once have had my xbox 360 headset fail, this is the second time my brand new xbox one headset has stopped working.

Me and a friend have never been able to connect and play games over XBL. We both have Open NAT so it isn't a NAT problem. we have manual port forwarded and can't connect. We have called Xbox support to try and figure out the problem and they couldn't figure
it out. My friend changed internet providers to the same one i have and we still are unable to connect, we can't join parties or games. For the past 3 years we have had to have a friend host to play together. I am have no idea what our problem is. Any help
would be appreciated.

I suspect the best way to try and work out is it is the adapter / controller or microphone would probably be to take everything to one of your friends house so that you can try to eliminate items from the list.

However the fact that moving the headset cord resolves the issue most likely points to a headset issue, to try to confirm this try securely holding the adapter/microphone jack in the controller then move the cord around to see if you produce the issue.
