NAT TYPE: Strict

Help Please,

Call of Duty Black Ops 3....I was trying to link with my father to play zombies at my new apartment complex (don't have access to the modem); however, my NAT TYPE is Strict. I've tried practically everything you can think of. I've
logged into my router, acquired the Subnet Mask, Default Gateway from my computer and the router (router was not needed according to various forums), DSN's, IP addresses, opened eight different ports through port forward triggering, double checked the UPnP, etc.
I manually changed all the network settings (IP/DSN primary & secondary) on my Xbox One counsel. Strange thing is, after all that, I ran a NAT test to ensure my type was open which it was; however, when I logged onto Call of Duty again, it says my "NAT TYPE: Strict"
(lower right hand corner of the screen).....? Any one have any thoughts??

If it's still strict after you open the proper ports, try resetting your modem and router, then hard reset your console.

Open Port

Just select your router and follow the instructions. Do not download anything from the site, it's not necessary. It's a safe site, but port forwarding manually is very easy.

 

NAT stands for Network Address Translation.

Simply put, the Xbox is trying to communicate out through your router on several ports. Since the router manages your network traffic, that's where the issue usually exists.

There is more info to explain about the process but we'll skip that for now

The NAT Types you'll run across on the Xbox are -

- OPEN - meaning the Xbox is able to communicate on the ports that it needs

- MODERATE - meaning some of the ports are closed and some games/features may not work

- STRICT - meaning that most ports are closed and most features like chat or connecting to a game server may not work

- UNAVAILABLE - meaning the router is not allowing the xbox to communicate on any ports

Troubleshooting -

- Since it sounds like your using the wifi "at my new apartment complex (don't have access to the modem". The router there may limit your access to the ports that the Xbox and what your game needs.



- You can try and change the DNS server on the Xbox to see if that helps.

On your Xbox One, go to Settings > Network > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > DNS Settings > Manual

- Set your Primary DNS as 8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS as 8.8.4.4

- Go back to Alternate MAC Address > Clear - and let the Xbox restart and try your games again

The other issue is that the NAT on the Xbox can be OPEN and when you try and launch a COD game, the game is unable to connect out on the port that it needs through the router and the game will show a NAT Type of STRICT

The other thing that you posted is that you don't have access to the router and then later you post that you "opened eight different ports through port forward triggering,"

I'm not sure if you're saying you do have access to the router? Or if you have a second router in your network setup?
