Nat type open, wired with Ethernet cable, multiplayer and internet issues.

My Xbox recently has been having a problem with multiplayer NAT and my internet. When I was getting on my Xbox, the multiplayer games and party chat stopped working along with problems with the internet. My wifi was still working but the majority of websites were not working. For example, when my Xbox was on, Microsoft and Reddit would not load but Wikipedia would.

Websites like Home Depot and the Xbox website weren’t loading either.

I changed my router settings and was able to make my NAT type open and my Xbox worked for a couple minutes perfectly before my multiplayer games stopped working.

I checked my internet and I still had the same problem of certain websites working and certain websites not. Things like my Alexa are not working either and the only solution to get my internet to work fully again is to restart my router and turn my Xbox off. I cannot find anything online about this any advice you guys have would be great. Thanks in advance.

As you said, it seems that everything points to be an issue with the router itself

Can you try factory resetting the router? (This is going to use the default wifi name and password)
If the issue persists even after the factory reset.

The next step will be contact your ISP (internet service provider) and ask them to assign you a different IP to your router or check what's going on internally

Are you wired or wireless? Wired through a ethernet cable always gives best open nat in my experience. However in the past when I have been wireless and had nat issues I found that testing the connection in settings resolved the issue. But I would recommend
using ethernet if possible.

Thanks for tying to help! I dont use wifi, i have a wired ethernet gigabit network. No other network issues or problems with other applications on the computer.

When checking Network in the Xbox companion it says NAT-type: Open

The other values on the companion Network: (Translated from swedish so I might use the wrong english names?!)

Internet: Connected

Xbox live services: Running

Xbox multiplayer:

NAT-Type: Open

Server: Connected

Result:

Response time: 35ms

Packet loss: 0%

First thing i would do is check your NAT type and do a multiplayer test, troubleshooting will follow from there, if your NAT type is open it shouldn’t need anything particularly changing. I’d just suggest the use of an Ethernet cable if you don’t already
use one, to improve your connection.

Please may I ask, are you trying to connect to the internet over WiFi or Ethernet?

Also, NAT Types: Open, Moderate, Strict. You want to be on Open or Moderate but should still be able to connect to any network even if you're getting a strict NAT Type.

A strict NAT Type will just affect your performance within Multiplayer Gameplay.
