Nat Issues, randomly changed from open to moderate.

Hi,

I've been through all the troubleshoot and nothing changes the NAT setting. I have a "your network is behind a port restricted NAT" message, i've opened all the proper ports and no change. My router is a Hitron technologies router.

NAT type problems

I have issues where my NAT randomly bounces around. Most of the time, it's open, but it'll randomly go to moderate or strict.

 

does ethernet xbox one download faster?

Sort of on topic: Will ethernet open up the NAT? Just changed routers and my NAT is now moderate vs. open before.

 

Is it a modem/router combo? What is the make/model? Is UPnP disabled? Are you using wired or wireless connectivity?

If the modem is a separate device try wiring your XBOX directly to the modem and see how it works.

 

it's a combo modem/router. The model is cgn, and UPNP has been enabled and disabled a few times. I run it wirelessly, but have tried switching it to wired with no effect.

 

Have you tried giving the XBOX a static IP address? That has helped some users resolve the issue. If you have UPnP enabled you should not be using port forwarding but if you are not using port forwarding then UPnP needs to be enabled.

Those combo devices have been causing a lot of issues since the update for some reason.

Sounds like large scale nat (carrier grade nat) meaning you isp is already natting you with a privet ip addresss instead of a public one ...heres how to check ...

If you want to check if your ISP is putting you behind his own NAT, browse to your router's configuration. Find the router's WAN IP address (check the router documentation again, if in doubt). Make a note of that WAN-IP address, and then browse to a page
that reads your public IP address (simply Bing for "what is my ip address" ).

If the IP address shown on the website is different to the WAN-IP in your home router, you have a double NAT. Either your Internet Provider puts you behind a NAT, or your Modem is also a NAT device.

you could call their tech support and ask if they are using carrier grade nat and ask if you have a public or private ip address...and you say you opened all the ports , did you assign a static ip address for the xbox also ? if not the port forwarding really
isn't doing anything I don't think...you could always see if it has a bridge mode in there and you could test it that way , if your comfortable getting in there
