NAT Issues? Cannot access Hogwarts Legacy

Hello,

I'm trying to help my wife get Hogwarts Legacy running on her Xbox Series S.

She is currently working in China, so I am not sure if this is part of the issue as the Xbox was purchased in the US, however, she has been able to connect to other games (i.e.Fall Guys) on Xbox Live with no issue.

I have had her connect to her router both wirelessly and wired, and the same error is received. When she selects the game, there is an image from the game shown for a second or two, and then she is returned to the Home Screen with an error that the game could not connect, code 0x80072efd.

We tried diagnosing issues through the Xbox diagnostics, and the issue I came across is that it says the NAT Type is Strict/Double NAT detected. There also seems to be some issues with uPnP not enabled.

I had her go into the router setting and open the NAT, essentially, but the game does not connect even Xbox recognizes NAT as open.

I'm not sure what else to try at this point and would appreciate any additional suggestions!

I had walked her through a few steps, including connecting directly to the modem via Ethernet, as well as trying connecting to the router by Ethernet. It seems the same issue comes up. Opening the NAT fixed the issue with the other gam she was playing, but not with Hogwarts Legacy.

I had her try powercycling as well, but I'll make sure that she follows the steps exactly. I can have her reach out, but I was taking care of it as she sometimes needs technical help of which steps to follow.

Hello Sal, sorry to hear your wife is having trouble with her game.

At the moment the error code you posted does suggest an issue with her connection. If she's still showing a double NAT have her try connecting directly to the modem if possible. However, she may want to try contacting her ISP as well as it may be an issue there too.

Her best bet though would be to contact us directly so we can get her help faster. In the meantime though please have her try powercycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down and unplug it for 5 minutes.

During this time have her unplug her modem/router for at least 60 seconds to see if that helps.

However, I am wondering if the issue is because it's a US console. I know that China is very strict about their service. If your wife's console is not set to China have her try that.
