Name is adding numbers when it isnt taken??

The ganertag Exptired is taken. With the new gamertag system, you can use already taken gamertags, but with the added discriminator behind your name (With you, it's Exptired#6908). Since you didn't select the button to change what your gamertag will show
in game (Example of what I mean), the system will automatically set your gamertag to Exptired6908.

You aren't understanding the issue

One what you have isnt a enforcement rename or a random gamertag.

An enforcement action or a random name has 3 things a emotion a cute animal and random numbers

What you have is a customized name but I don't think you realize how it gets generated

Since you used plain English common name you couldn't have believed that name wasn't taken

Since ita an obvious name it is most likely a taken name

Since its a taken name (crystal) it's going to get a hashtag

Which is what you got

Common you couldn't possibly believe that ,crystal wasn't taken

When choosing a name that is alreafy taken it means you can still choose the name but it tells you upfront that you will get a hashtag

Since your name is obviously taken

The hashtag is 4 numbers randomly generated since your crystal name is taken that's what you get

# only shows up in certain games right now not all games support suffixes

Its not until late 2020 will games even start adding the display

Fyi unless you throw in a few numbers you cant possibly know if your name is taken or not

Any name can have an unlimited amount of combinations

Just because you searched for one combination doesnt mean it isnt taken

Gamertag is the same as gamertag or Gamer Tag

But in order to find an unique name you have search with the EXACT context

The system doesnt just give you a similar name hence the suffix

If you didnt know you can have any name that is within the limit of the terms of use

However if it is already taken you are asigned an suffix to make unique

Usiually a series of numbers the only way around it is to actually pick a unique name

That isnt already taken

And since you already have a customizrd name you dont qualify for a free name change

As mentioned above, the name was most likely already taken so Xbox added on some numbers to the end of your new name in order to allow you to use it. Someone else has that same GamerTag and so you can't have it with the same spelling without numbers.
