My Xbox won't install a system update

that happened with my new xbox one I had to return it to get my system back to when I got it. they said it was cheap electronics installed . hopefully the replaced it with an updated chip or whatever so it won't happen again.

There isn't a way to revert back to a prior dashboard or system update, but you can clear your cache if you are trying to do some general housekeeping (support.xbox.com/.../clear-system-cache).
That will remove all your title updates, but you won't erase gamertag, DLC, system updates, etc.

If you don't install and agree to terms for the most current system updates you won't be able to connect to Live, though you could play offline. Hope that answers your question!

When the memory units fail in those Xbox 360 consoles, you can't delete or install anything and you'll often get prompted to install a system update which won't install either.

If you can try and exchange the 360 with gamestop that would be best and get a 360 without a memory unit. The systems without a memory unit will require an internal hard drive.

The setup disc is only necessary for consoles that are not connected online, and really only contained a system update for the console.

If your Xbox 360 console is able to connect to Xbox Live, and has the most up-to-date system software, you don't need the installation disc, as it won't work anymore if the console has a newer system software installed. The system software already has the
necessary software for the wheel.

If your console is not connected online, you might have to
download the latest system software on an USB stick or burn it to a disc according to the instructions here.

These system updates already include the necessary wheel support.
