My xbox was stolen. Can I get it shut down

hey so my Xbox was stolen. I have the serial number and I remember the name. I was going to give it to my son but this guy I thought was my friend decided to steal it from me. Im wondering if there is a way for me to get my xbox locked or banned from live
or just something so the thief cant do anything on the console. Both my wife and I have our live accounts connected to that device and the thief managed to add his account so we see he has been using the xbox

Hi there,

if you haven't already then please call the local authorities/police to see what they can do and possibly retrieve the console.

Regarding your accounts, I suggest changing your passwords to ensure that the thief can't use your accounts.

Regarding the console itself and locking it down, I don't think you can do such a thing. The only option you have is to contact Xbox Support to see if they can do anything like that, but I'm afraid that they can't do anything without the authorities asking
such thing.

bstn617 where did you read that XBL was attacked? It was claimed on Twitter from some hacker group that PSN was DDOS attacked by them. That does not make it fact.

But here is one fact, PSN was hacked and peoples information stolen. Which ultimately shut down for 6 weeks. Xbox Live has never been shut down, nor information stolen.

I have a friend whose xbox one was stolen from his house. I went online to play and noticed that the person that stolen the Xbox one is playing on my friends account. Is there a way to track down the theif so my friend can get his xbox one back?

I have been on live for many many years now and have had no issues regarding anyone hacking my Xbox. I believe most Xbox users that have had their accounts stolen had them stolen through social engineering for the most part. As other posters will tell
you, the Xbox will not catch anything that can harm others devices on the network so your parents have nothing to fear. I feel it to be safer than using an older computer. If they are truly concerned with network attacks or viruses, they should upgrade their
PC or shut it down.
