My xbox series x keeps overheating

Hello,

My xbox series x keeps overheating and crashing very easily on certain games such as wolfenstein young Blood and cold War ( those are the only two so far that I have had real problems with) it starts with the game starting to have fps drops and after a minute or 2 the console simply just crashes and I have to restart it again with a message that tells me that the console had to shutdown due to overheating.

I tried with all the different power options such as instant on (which is the one I have been using since I bought the console until a week ago) power saving and also the standby mode.

So basically I would like to know if it's normal that my console overheats and crashes as soon as 5 minutes after I launch those games and if I can do anything about it ?

No it’s not normal for it to overheat during normal use. Normally I’d suggest a hard reset by holding the power button down. In this case, however, you might actually have a genuine cooling issue with your console, either a fan isn’t working, or the console may need to be opened and serviced with new thermal paste.

Consider sending it in for a repair so they can take a look.

It is not normal. As you recently purchased the console, I would try to exchange it with the store. It would be faster than sending it to Microsoft.

If you haven't tried, reset the console to factory defaults, you won't lose anything but you will need to log in with your account again. Email and password are required.

Follow this path and select reset keeping games and app.

In 5 to 10 minutes you will finish reconfiguring your console

To reset the console>

Settings> System> Console Info> Reset Console

***Do not reset your console without having your account email and password.***

In my experience the notification about overheating occurs after you turn the console back on after letting it cool down, about an hour. I've never seen it before it turns off, and only had overheating on a Xbox One X. The side tiny vents were blocked with dust which required vacuuming out every other month.

Haven't had overheating on my Xbox Series X.

Elden Ring is resource intensive. Could you hear Series X fan working overtime while you were playing?

If so I would send the console back to get repaired and / or replace it.

It sometimes happens when Im on YouTube. Im using Xbox Series X. No overheating issues as far as I know but I may be wrong. I keep getting pop-ups about a JMicron Generic USB Device and if its staying attached with multiple consoles or not.
