    MY XBOX SERIES X HAS A CHIP FAILURE RESULTING IN AN INTERMITTING DISC DRIVE


    I’ve owned my Xbox Series X since the start of 2021.

    I ran out of warranty the following year, not long after that my X was showing signs of disc drive failure, Microsoft quoted £285 for an out of service repair, but I instead took it to a Third Party repair, I was informed that the disc drive was failing was because a chip in one of the motherboards had fried out, I got my X back The week of Xmas 2022, its now showing the same signs again of disc drive failing, Microsoft again Quoting £285, Luckily my third party repair covers warranty.

    I want to make Microsoft aware of a potential chip burning out resulting in disc drives failing

    Im also aware Microsoft will try and blame third party but I was out of warranty, and I was fully not prepared to spend £285 knowing it could fail again in the next few months (look what happened) and then have to spend another load of money again, when I could of in turn just brought a new console

    Has anyone had anything similar?

    Symptoms my Series X gave me before the chip burnout the first time round.

    *disc drive clicking/grinding noise *sounding like its not getting enough power on start up * System Start up Errors when it struggles to read *gets really hot *General not nice sounding noises coming from the console. *intermitting disc drive

    series x has disc drive and the series s does not

    smart delivery is so it downloads the content for the specific console

    hence why the game case has series x and xbox one advertised on it. the disc can be used in series x and xbox one consoles, the series s does not have a drive therefore requires digital purchase.

    Series X - subtle grind/scratch noise from disc drive

    What started as a subtle noise on my first 6 month old Series X turned into a complete failure of the disc drive and the console was replaced under warranty.

    Don't leave it to late to get it repaired or replaced under warranty.

    Series S keeps crashing

    I have all the same systems and all have failed minus the OG Xbox and Series X but that's still under warranty so I'd give it a few months before it joins them. 360 had red ring, xbox one disc drive failure, one x power supply failure, and now my Series S. I'm not paying $200 for out of warranty repair as Microsoft products have grown kind of stale. Time to try something different but thanks for your help.

    Yes, the Series X has a Blu-Ray drive. Your Xbox One disc games will work on this system.

    Xbox One Series S - I'm confused

    You have names mixed up. There are no consoles named the Xbox One Series S or Xbox One Series X.

    The Xbox One/One S/One X all have a disc drive.

    The Xbox One S All Digital Edition does not have a disc drive.

    The Xbox Series X has a disc drive.

    The Xbox Series S does not have a disc drive.

    All the consoles can play backward compatible games. The Series S and One S all digital edition can only play games digitally downloaded.

    The other consoles can play games from disc and from digitally downloaded,

    I hope this clears things up for you.
