If your controller does not connect via Bluetooth or USB cable, but you connected another controller with the same USB cable, it is possible that your controller is damaged, so I suggest you check if it still has an active warranty. To do this, go to the following link:

If you have a warranty I suggest sending it for repair, otherwise if you do not have a warranty you will have to pay a fee for its repair. It is normal for this to happen in the controls, so don't worry.

Turns out it was somehow trying to connect to either the xbox one s or xbox series s consoles in my house for some reason. Turning them off fixed it.

Sidenote: In all my experiences with wireless xbox controllers (xbox 360, xbox one, xbox series x/s) the sync button needs to be held to be put into pairing mode (quarter ring rotating clockwise /flashing xbox logo), while the button on the console needs a single press, if it helps anyone.

My console is the Xbox series X. My controller stopped working last night while I was playing a game and it said reconnect controller but it was still on. I’ve tried holding the pairing button but nothing happened. I’ve tried taking it out of range of my Xbox to see if it would shut off. I’ve tried restarting and unplugging my Xbox. But my elite controller still has the light on and won’t do anything. Even the button to change paddle presets isn’t turning those lights on.

He has the Xbox series x. I have made sure the plugs were plugged in properly, I have tried using a different outlet. I have unplugged for 10 seconds plugged everything back in and still nothing. The white ring comes on for a second and powers down immediately. I can’t get it to stay on. I have gotten cooling docks and still nothing. I even tried turning it on with the controller.
