My xbox series x constantly says I'm playing a game, even when the console is off. Any fixes?

So the issue came up today and I only noticed it when someone in my party chat spotted that it said I was on one game although I was infact on another.

Earlier on I was playing skate 2, an xbox 360 backwards compatible game, when I was waiting for a few friends. They get back, we play our xbox one/series x/s games and that's that. However later on into the night I found out it said I was playing Skate 2 once again, this is despite not being in the game for over an hour or so and playing games since then.

Even now after fully turning the console off at the wall, it still says im online playing Skate 2.

If anyone has any ideas or fixes to this it'd be much appreciated. Thanks alot!

It seems like the only way to fix it is to open the Xbox 360 menu and scroll all the way to the right and click on “preferences” > “online status” > “appear offline” and then quit the game.

This seems to only work every now and then, so it may take a couple tries and possibly a few minutes to refresh

I was having the same problem. The solution I found was to go into the game that it said I was playing, then go to the xbox 360 menu by pressing the view button and menu button at the same time, then go to settings then preferences then online status then set it to appear offline.

NP. One thing that has sometimes forced a status update for me is to manually sign out, then sign back in again. You don't need to remove your account from the console or anything - just sign out and back in. It's not guaranteed to work, however, but it's worth a shot.

I've seen a couple of other threads about this, so maybe there is an issue with Xbox Live. It certainly wouldn't be the first time it's happened.

The main friends list often seems to lag just a little bit behind what people are doing, but if you go to a person's main profile page, that is usually accurate, however, sometimes there are issues where the activity data is not getting updated/properly synced.

For now I wouldn't worry about it, cos I have seen this happen a bunch of times since the Xbox One originally came out, and it always gets fixed at some point, even if it takes a day or two.
