My grandson has an Xbox connected to a monitor. No tv. How can I connect a soundboard to that setup without a tv?

Hello Deborah, sorry to hear you're having trouble.

It depends on the console. If he has an Xbox up to the One X then there should be an Optical Port on the back. Most sound bars will offer an optical in option for this as they offer a really good audio option for the console. If he's using the Xbox Series X or S then the Optical Port is not a feature so he would need to purchase either an Xbox compatable Wireless headset or a wired headset that can plug into his controller.

Am I doing something wrong with using a headset from a controller?

Hello dear Gamer, first it's a pleasure to be able to help you today.

    My name is Vinicius.

I am a gamer and independent advisor on the XBOX community platform.

Hey fallen, how are you today? Hope you're well.

So, you tested 3 headsets in both the Series controller and One controller and it didn't work at all? The console does not even recognize that the headsets are connected?

Try to access the audio settings on the console (with any headset connected in the 3.5mm jack):

Hit the xbox button on the controller > drag right to settings > click on audio > it will open three options for you to adjust the volume.

    The first leave at most.

The second is "headset chat mixer" leave in the middle to hear both console and chat sounds or all the way to the left on the control symbol to hear only console sounds (music, games, etc.)

And the third, at your discretion, is the microphone volume.

If the options are greyed out, your console is not recognizing that the headsets are connected. In that case might be the console or the controllers. But since you test another controller, might be the console indeed.

I can’t hear my game sounds and Xbox notifications when I have a headset on but can hear and talk on party chat fine?

Hello HazelTomkins, sorry to hear you're having trouble with the game audio.

What you'll want to do is go into your audio settings and make sure that they are set up properly for the headset. You can also tap the Guide button on the controller then scroll down to the bottom right of the side bar to access specific settings including the audio slider. The slider should adjust how much game to party sound you hear.

If the slider is greyed out then you may be using a headset that has its own mixer that you'll need to adjust to hear the game sound

Xbox Please Add Support for USB Audio (UAC1/UAC2)

I originally posted this on r/xboxnsiders yesterday in the requests section for this week, April 9th, 2021. I also added a line or two.

I recently purchased the new Wireless Xbox Headset, and after using it most evenings since launch (I got mine two days after launch), the sound quality is ruining the headset for me. The rest of the futures on the headset are great, but the sound quality and soundstage for positioning are mediocre. For $100, the headset is an amazing steal for everything the headset offers, but I can't see myself keeping them long-term due to the overall poor audio quality. I've been fortunate enough to listen to headsets that offer great audio quality and soundstage in the past for gaming and music, but that was through an external DAC and amp combo connected to a PC. And these days, I do all my gaming on my new Xbox Series X. And I love using my SX because all my friends that I regularly play with are on Xbox!!

With that being said, Xbox, can you please add support for UAC1 and UAC2 for external audio hardware. Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 & 5, PCs, Macs, and even iPad/iPhone support these standards. I am NOT asking for Bluetooth capability or the opening of your Xbox Wireless protocol. Just asking for the ability to plug in quality audio gear (that supports UAC1 & UAC2) to have the best audio experience my budget can allow for. Again, not everyone can/will appreciate audio in the same way because hearing is a subjective part of our lives and some people won't care about that too much. Still, for those who really love our audio (and willing to invest in dedicated equipment for it), having support for USB Audio would only add to our gaming experience and make us love our time on Xbox that much more! It might be a smaller subset of the Xbox community that desires this functionality. Still, we are out there, and we want to play the games wholly immersed in the soundscapes that studios around the world have worked hard to craft for all players, including Player (1). Looking at you, Phil Spencer!

Power to the Player, or in this case, Audio to the Players!
I'd read reviews about the Wireless Xbox Headset and I'm sure I remember seeing one or two that said the sound out of the box with the headset wasn't great and that they had to pay for the Dolby Atmos plugin to really get the best audio out of the headset.

Not sure if you may want to look into this.

Xbox Wireless Headset Chat Mixer not working

Thank you for that. Unfortunately it hasnt worked. I still cant hear any game chat, and the chat mixer is still greyed out.

I should point out that if I plug my wired headset into my wireless controller, I can hear chat.
