My Xbox remote won't connect to my Xbox

Hello, my xbox remote won't sync to my Xbox, I'll press and hold the sync button on the xbox and remote but that won't work and if i plug the remote in the xbox will turn off and won't turn on until i unplug.

Anyone know what's causing this and how to fix it.

If this is a new controller, you’ll need to connect it to your console by using the console’s Pair button

If this controller was previously connected to the console but is no longer able to connect, you should repeat the connection process using the console’s Pair button (((.

Also, make sure that nothing is interfering with your controller’s wireless signal:

1. Move closer to your Xbox. The range for wireless controllers is 19-28 ft (6-9 m), but things like walls and interference from other wireless devices can reduce the range. Range may also be reduced if your Xbox faces away from you
   or sits in a cabinet. Make sure your controller is pointed at the front of your Xbox.
2. Remove objects between your controller and Xbox. Check the space between you and the Xbox for things that might interfere with your controller’s wireless signal (laptops, microwave ovens, cordless phones, wireless routers, metal dividers,
   shelves, doors, and so on)

Another thing that proves to be helpful is to verify that your controller batteries aren’t causing this issue. Note that a controller with low battery level might turn on briefly but not stay on for long. Any time your
controller connects to the Xbox console, its current battery level can be seen in the upper-right corner of the Home screen.

I've done everything to get my xbox remote to connect to my laptop. But nothing works?

When you say you did everything:

Does the controller show up in the device manager when you connect the controller via USB cable?

What operating system version are you running on your laptop? You can find the version by pressing "Windowskey + R" and typing "Winver" into the dialogue box and clicking OK.

If you're running Windows 10, make sure you have at least Version 1709 running (1803 or 1809 would be better)

I have the Xbox Series X and was playing remote play on my Surface Pro 6 , it won't load up every time I try to do remote play on my surface and I'm not near my Xbox

ALSO: Connecting with my iPhone to remote play on my Xbox ALSO causes the Xbox to think a headset is connected. So not just confined to connecting with my iPad.
