My xbox one x made a popping noise

...It might've been the airflow because it was really hot and it was under my sweatshirt.

Why do you keep your console under your sweatshirt?

Usually, the console has an internal temperature sensor that shuts down the console before it gets too hot. After the console shut down itself, you'll get a specific message telling you that the console shut down to protect it from overheating.

If the console still works flawlessly when you provide sufficient air flow, the popping sound might have been from a plastic part of the casing expanding, and making a popping sound.

Was it a really loud pop? ... Does it still turn on?

When things heat up they expand and it could have been just the case. I wouldn't suggest placing items of clothing over it. It needs to breath.

That is normal. that is the fan my xbox one x has always made a similar noise

My son's Xbox Series X has tripped. We have tried to change the fuse however again we tried to turn it on, and it made a popping noise and blew the fuse.

Discussion of self repair isnt allowed so unfortunately the only thing anyone would be able to suggest would be to sent it into Microsoft for repair.

So I just updated my controller hoping that it would fix the occasional popping noises I was experiencing, and now I have constant popping noises whenever there is any sound. Super annoying. Update made it far worse for me. I have tried doing a hard reset
and unplugging the power but the popping persists.

Wish I read this before updating.
