I tried it on energy saving mode with Wi-Fi. When I first turned it on it was not connected but after several seconds it then connected to Wi-Fi.

If you are attempting to connect to wi-fi, you need the password for that wi-fi. If you are trying to connect to wi-fi that is not password protected, you need to have access to the modem itself, as you need to reset the modem or the xbox will not recognize
it.

My Wi-Fi is the working have several other devices connected but my Xbox live won't connect unless I plug in Ethernet yellow cord why is that

Yes, Wi-Fi has to deal with software but it's a hardware just like bluetooth. A device won't be able to support Wi-Fi if there's no hardware for Wi-Fi or wireless connectivity or let's simply put it as a wireless card.
