My Xbox One S keeps freezing. How do I fix this?

Every time I open an app or game on my Xbox, one of three things will happen:

1. The game or app will not start

2. If it does start, it will not load

3. If it does load, the game or app will freeze

I have read many articles and followed many steps to try to solve this. Some things that I have done are testing the internet connection, trying a lower video resolution, power cycling, replacing the HDMI cord, testing the NAT type, and reseting the Xbox four times.

It is also worth mentioning that my Xbox will blink twice rapidly, and sometimes it won’t turn on. I was wondering if this was a hardware and not a software issue.

Do you have any external devices hooked up to the console, such as an external hard drive? If you do, unplug them, so the only things connected are the power and HDMI cables (and the controller if you use a wired one), then test to see if you still have issues.

That's the only thing I can think of that you haven't already tried. It could certainly be a hardware issue, but it's impossible to diagnose without taking a look at the console. My first guess would be a dying hard drive, but obviously I can't say anything for sure.

Thanks for replying! I don’t have an external hard drive and I only have wireless controllers. A dying hard drive sounds like the best possibility.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this unexpected situation on your Xbox console.
Reviewing your post description, it seems that this could be a hardware issue and not a software issue.

I recommend you getting the console inspected in a repair shop.

You know Mad Cow is absolutely right on this, if you do run the screen freeze solution it should work, but I will admit as well my system tends to freeze but that is after the systems starts to over heat. I will as well suggest event though they say you
can play your system with it standing, most gamers I know would say don't do it, as it is possible to scratch the CD, some will deny this some will agree, just each their own is all.

Kindly try plugging in your console on a different wall outlet. If you have already tried that and the same issue occurs, may I ask if you have an external hard drive plugged into your console? If yes, a corrupted hard drive may cause issues as well, make sure to unplug and reset the Internal power supply by following the steps below:

"Unplug the mains lead from the console.

Wait 10 seconds.

Plug the cord back into the console, and then press the Xbox button on the front of the console."
