my xbox one backwards compatible library

so I have been wanting to sell my xbox 360's so I refurbished the hard drive to delete all the games, profiles and payment info. afterwards I started up gears of war 3 on my xbox one. according to it I was not signed in and all of my saved data was gone.
I would like to know why that is.

To think about it, 90% of the Xbox 360 library should be backward compatible.

In order to transfer the content of your XB 360 account to your new Xbox one, you must do the following

Transfer content licences

1. On your console, sign in to Xbox Live using the gamertag that you used to purchase the content.
2. Go to the Settings and then select Account.
3. Go to Your Billing Options, and then select Licence Transfer.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer the content licences.

There appears to be some confusion about this.

In regards to 'license transfer', this is not required on the Xbox One. It's a 360 thing. Your BC 360 games don't need any licenses to be changed, indeed such option does not appear on the Xbox One.

I would suggest clearing the Xbox 360 settings on the Xbox One.

Troubleshooting Xbox 360 Games on Your Xbox One

Then try your game again.

If no joy.

1. Clear the 360 settings again.

2. Remove your account from the console - making sure you know your log-in credentials before you do.

3. With the console on, hold down the power button until the machine goes off. Wait about 15 seconds and power back up.

4. Add your account again and try your game.
