my Xbox Elite controller's audio device keeps disconnecting

I have been having this issue for awhile and just today figured out that the Xbox controller audio device is disconnecting and reconnecting while playing games, causing the game to free for a second or two. I have the audio devices disabled in Windows control panel, and half the time the audio devices don't even show up. I first saw this issue present itself (aside from in-game freezes) as device manage refreshing anytime the freezes happened. I then used USBLogView to see if my controller was disconnecting, but it was just the audio device portion of the controller.

I've tried many things I have found online to fix controller disconnecting, but none of them seem to apply to this issue. I don't have another computer or console to try my controller on at the moment so I cannot tell if it's a hardware issue. The controller worked fine before I reinstalled windows fairly recently.

Have you tried using Xbox Accessories app?
Can you please let us know what games are you having issues with?
Are you getting issues with the headset or speakers as well?

I actually did resolve this issue myself. My controller had static buildup in the 3.5mm port and the issue was fixed by simply plugging in headphones to the port. I heard the electric discharge when I plugged it in which is how I know there was a static buildup.

I'm not sure if this is a problem with my controller in particular in some way and I need to get a replacement. I'm waiting a bit longer to see if it happens again before requesting a replacement.

Hey everyone,

Audio worked out of the box for me. A USB Audio Device appeared when I plugged the Stereo Headset adaptor into the controller AND plugged headphones into the adaptor.

This is using a standard Xbox One controller (i.e. not an elite) via the wireless adaptor with v20.24.34.491 drivers.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with your Xbox Elite controller, please make sure that both the Elite controller and your Xbox console are updated to the latest firmware version.

Go to your Xbox console's audio settings and make sure they are set correctly. Go to Settings > Devices & Accessories > Audio > Audio Output and make sure you select the appropriate option for game and chat audio.
