My Xbox controller is getting the same input as my mouse.

I just bought a controller today and ran into the same issues - I have some input that may help. I downloaded an app that tracks my keystrokes to see exactly what inputs the controller is sending. Both the Xbox Guide Button and A button are sending the following MOUSE inputs:

LButton (left mouse button)
XButton2 (second "extra" mouse button)

It's interesting because it's not actually behaving as if I'm pressing either of those buttons, but for some reason both Steam and Xbox Game Bar were responding as if I pressed the Xbox Guide button. I turned off both the Game Bar and Steam and the controller is working as expected, BUT every time I press the A button, all my on-screen button icons change to mouse/keyboard inputs because the LButton and XButton2 inputs are mouse inputs. An improvement, but still annoying.

You will usually get matchmade with players of the same control input. When playing fortnite on the xbox with a controller, if you try and change to mouse and keyboard, you aren't allowed. I like it though. Bringing all the gamers together is something
that is long overdue. I shouldn't be punished for wanting an xbox when my friend has a playstation.

I get this same issue, but not when exiting a game. It happens when the controller experiences any kind of connection loss with the Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows.

When that happens, controller input stop entirely and it won't reconnect. Eventually my mouse gets choppy and then the boop boop noises start. My only solution is a full hard power button reboot.

This needs to get fixed!

There are devices that take the input from a mouse and keyboard and translate them into the same input that the console would see from a controller.

They are unauthorized hardware, and using them is prohibited. Even - as far as I know - for games that allow mouse and keyboard.
