My Xbox Cloud Gaming save not transferring to a local installation of fallout 4? Any help?

What 'Main System' did you download it to? If it was the PC version, there isn't a cross save feature, hence why with this version you would have start from the beginning. All Xbox Cloud games run off Xbox console hardware.

Thanks for clarifying. Sadly, it is not possible to transfer save data between the Xbox Cloud Gaming service and a locally installed console version of a game. The save data for games played on Xbox Cloud Gaming is stored on the cloud servers and is not accessible on a local console. Similarly, save data for games played on a local console is not synced with the cloud.

If you play connected to xbox live you game data will automatically be saved to the cloud. Important to note that the cloud is used only to save game data not the game itself.

Example: if you are playing Fallout 4 on your console and save your game and go to another console with Fallout 4 installed you can sign in with your xbox live profile and play from where you left off on the previous console. But you cannot save Fallout
4 the game to the cloud to play on both consoles without installing it onto there hard drives.

I believe this occurs if the game doesn't successfully cloud sync when it exits, thus the error when cloud save is attempted on next game session.

This shouldn't mean any data is lost, - just load the latest local save (which is created anyway) and when you carry on playing, both local and cloud saves should be updated when you next save.

If you use a single Xbox One, there should be no issues. I have 3 in my house (lucky me) and it's only if I move Fallout 4 between consoles will it be unable to load a local save over a cloud save - so I just use the local load until cloud save is successful.
