    I noticed this issue last month, after not playing any PC games that would use a controller for over a month. My controller just kept randomly and constantly disconnecting during gameplay. At first I thought it was the specific game's doing, but then I noticed it was happening with almost every game in my Steam library. After fiddling with the steam settings, I tested Epic Games store and found the same problem kept occurring. After a lot of trial and error, I was able to narrow down the problem: Every time a game would vibrate the controller, it would turn off, usually getting stuck vibrating. Which means I could play in the menus indefinitely, but as soon as I got to a cutscene with vibration, took damage, fired a gun, or encountered any other situation that vibrated the controller, it'd turn off.

    Suspecting a hardware problem, I went into the global settings for Epic and Steam and turned off vibrations, as well as turned it off in individual games. But the problem kept happening, even without any actual vibration occurring. Every time the game would cause any slight vibration signal, my controller goes dead and I have to turn it back on, which makes the vast majority of modern games impossible to play.

    It isn't just my imagination about the vibration either: I played several older games that I know for a fact don't have any vibration in them, and they all ran fine from start to finish, without a single disconnection.

    I tried reinstalling the drivers of the controller and changing every conceivable setting that could affect the controller and the games I was playing, to no avail. It can't be a physical problem with the controller because it's not even trying to vibrate anymore, and it runs fine on games that don't have vibration at all. Please help me! I want to play games made after 2006 again!

    I don't use any third party accessories of any kind, and the link you provided made me download an app that seems to only detect Xbox One and Xbox Series X controllers, which is not the controller I'm using.

    If you use a play&charge accessory or a third-party battery pack please try to remove it from the controller and use regular batteries just to be sure...

    But if it was a failing chip interpreting the signal wrong, wouldn't it vibrate anyway? I think a software issue is much more likely.

    Sounds to me like you have something in the controller that’s failing, and the vibration broke a circuit which caused it to shut down. I’m not sure of exactly how vibration works on a software level, so I can’t comment on why it being turned off could be causing this, but pure speculation, the signal is sent anyway with a “no” flag, and whatever is interpreting it is the chip that’s failing. I expect your problem wil get worse over time and extend to non rumble titles.

    Unfortunately 360 console and accessory support has ended, so you’re pretty much stuck

    For a Xbox 360 controller, I think it is not possible to turn off vibration on general. You will need to enter each game settings and turn off vibration there. Usually all games have a setting to turn vibration on or off.

    You could use the Xbox Accessories app to turn the vibration off but it is not compatible with Xbox 360 controllers.
