My Xbox 360 console tray keeps popping back open whether there’s a game in there or not...

be read) then the problem is probably a stretched or dirty Small Square Belt.

Hey Cyber idk if this will fix your issue follow my steps

1:turn you console on (dosent matter if ur online or not)

2:Open you disk tray and keep it open

3:unplug you power cable from the xbox while the disk tray is still open

4: while your xbox is off push you disk tray in half way

5lug your 360 back in and turn if on by pressing the power button not the controller

6:it should not open and close uncontrollably dont worry ive tried it on mine and it works GL

This happens to my Xbox 360 often now.

Just have to keep opening/closing the tray 'till it works.

When you push the eject button, does the dish tray pop out by a millimeter or two and makes a noise as if its trying to open? If it does try pushing it back in, then it should pop open like normal immediately. I know it's not really a fix, but yeah..

My console's dish tray occasionally gets stuck like that as well. Also it may retract after a few seconds of being open, so just be quick with the disc changes.

It does fix it as it's a plastic gear wheel that is poped out of alignment, hitting the base pops it back into mesh. As for whether it's permanent or not I couldn't say, but it is a known DIY fix for the grinding disc tray fault. Apparently if the transit
of the console is a bit rough it can cause the gear to pop out and cause the nasty noise.
