One email address cannot be linked to two Xbox accounts at the same time, sign in at this link and check which Xbox account you actually have:

If it is not the same account you always used, it is possible that someone has gained unauthorized access and changed the way you access that old account.

hi Lucas, minecraft java edition was purchased through mojang and then the account was migrated to my Microsoft account. My son has his own Microsoft account and it's been added to the family account. Now I need to change the Minecraft login credential to using his microsoft email.

My son purchased the Minecraft Java and Bedrock edition from the Minecraft website. He purchased it without signing in to his Microsoft account.

Now, when he's trying to download the game, it is asking him to "Buy" it again.

Please help. It already deducted the amount from my card.

He had to have signed into some sort of Microsoft account even if it were a different one than his usual Microsoft account.

I just checked and tried going to minecraft.net as if i were going to buy the game and it wouldnt let me do so unless i signed in with an existing Microsoft account or created a new one.

Is there any possibility he could've accidentally been already logged into a different Microsoft account and not realized it (where the browser saved a previous login) when he went to make the purchase?

When I bought my minor son his first Xbox, I added the Xbox to my account and had my son sign in there to use it. He is now an adult and I want him to set up his own Microsoft account and move his Xbox to his own account. How do we do this??.

You can easily havr him create his own account and log into his xbox.

He will lose access to his saved games and anything linked to your account. They cannot be transferred to another Microsoft account, nor can his gamertag.

He would essentially be starting fresh on his account.

Minecraft for Windows 10 is an edition of Minecraft designed for Windows 10, featuring cross-play with players on "bedrock devices" such as Xbox One, iOS and Android phones, Nintendo Switch, and
more.
Therefore you will need to use a Microsoft Account and create an Xbox Live profile to login and play Minecraft Windows 10 edition.

We recommend creating a child Microsoft Account for your son so that he can login using his own account where his progress would be saved and it would not be associated to your own Microsoft account. You can then manage your son's account on
Windows 10 using parental controls through a Microsoft Family. Create a new Microsoft Account for your son using the correct birthdate and then create a Family group to add your son's account.

offline permissions in the Microsoft Store, your son should be able to login and play on his own Microsoft Account/Xbox Live profile even though his account didn't purchase the digital license. However, you will need to "prepare" the game to be played by
other accounts when yours is offline. The included link lists the steps to turn on offline permissions on your PC and how to prepare the game which only needs to be done once.
