my son got a 3 month gold code from game then entered it and got error

If he redeemed the code on a prepaid card then why is it saying that it was paid for by a Visa? You mentioned that you cancelled the Visa card and that the purchase was declined. The only thing that I can think of why these details would be part of the
scenario is that he turned on the recurring payment option so it is trying to add that. A prepaid card doesn't need this information unless you are wanting the subscription to continue after it expires. He should delete that payment option off his account

Have you checked the purchase history on his Microsoft account to see if it shows a redemption for the code he put in? You can find that information on your computer by logging into his Microsoft account,
or you can do it from the console.

1. To view your purchases, press the Xbox button
    to open the guide.
2. Go to Profile & system > Settings >
   Account > Payment & billing.
3. Select Order history to view your purchases.

Hi theshredder the problem it seems is that tbh it is very complicated so I will try to explain better.

My son put a credit card called go henry which is a card for kids which we hve cancelled but he did not take it of his xbox so when he put his code onto his xbox an option came up I think to add it to his card buty we hve contacted gohenry and they said
it was declined but it is still showing on my account has it has been paid. so I am in limbo as to what to do now because it is Microsoft side but I cant speak to anyone.

I recommend you go to this website https://support.xbox.com/?xr=footnav and select contact us and answer the questions and if it doesnt have the option to talk to a live agent select the talk to an xbox gamer and then tell then you want to speak with a
live agent or higher support and then they should give you a link to talk to a live agent.

Just to amke sure that no Live gold subscription is linked with the acoount of your son. Go over at settings on the Xbox, through your son's account. Under the tab "Account", select "Subscriptions" and see if there are any 'active' or 'canceled' subscriptions.
Also, do check the "Payment & billing", again unfer the same tab on tge settings menu, and select 'Order history' to absolutely make sure that no ored for a Live gold had been placed or redeemed. If nothing appears, then it might have even been the case that
the code was not applicable any lobger from the get go. It could also possibly be a bug. Maybe you have set the settings of your son's account as restricted and set your Microsoft acoount as a parent account without whose permission your son cannot buy or
redeem game and subscription codes.If that has happened, most likely an email should have come to you (parent account email) asking for your permission to accept the action of your son redeeming the code and therefore the whole thing is pending. Making the
account unrestricted is not a bad idea. Another possible solution that I am thinkjng even though it might not do anything is to set your xbox as 'My home Xbox' in the settings menu under the 'General' tab at the "Personalization" option; turn that xbox as
your home xbox to see if it changed anything regarding the sharing of subscriptions and games to taht console. If none of this works tehn im sorry for having to rwad the oong text and trying all these options. The last thing you can do is to really just contact
customer support.
