My Original Xbox console is no longer reading discs

My original Xbox isn’t reading discs anymore. Whenever I insert a disc, nothing happens. I don’t even get an error message. All that happens is the eject button light blinks and the console starts making a noise that sounds like a motorcycle revving up. What could be the cause of this problem, and is there any way to fix it?

It sounds like the drive has failed, unfortunately Microsoft has not repaired original Xbox in many, many years

Hi there

Thanks. I've been thinking the same thing but don't know for sure whether replacements would still be available, or for how much. A replacement machine is clearly another option and I could possibly swap the drive in to mine

I was wondering whether anyone out there had personal experience of either option and might know better then me ;-)

Yeah. I've already clocked some YT videos - can't see that replacing the drive would be terribly difficult, but how easy are they to get hold of and where from?

Unfortunately I don't have any experience on the classic, and it's not allowed to give any explanation on this kind of repair on this forum ;-)

Maube you can watch some YouTube tutorials and find the disc lector in some third party stores.
