My Microsoft Store is suddenly displaying in the wrong currency REHASH

Due to the original post being locked I am remaking the query for the sake of those having the issue presented in said original post.

Hopefully you then continued your search and found this, or better yet, you found this first.

In my subsequent investigations since, I have been able to identify the cause of this concern and hopefully this will get someone at Microsoft to fix this cause so nobody needs to search for this again.

The source of the problem is here:

Why? Because the link at the top that takes you to renewing your subscription doesn't check your country on either your IP or your account and defaults to India with this URL:

https://www.xbox.com/en-in/games/store/pc-game-pass/cfq7ttc0kgq8?OCID=cmm8nvaf4bn

Notice the directory after xbox.com is /en-in/ as this is short for "English India" and will subsequently display currencies in Rupees.

You actually want to go here instead as /en-US/ is short for "English United States"

Here's hoping someone at Microsoft catches this and can fix that link/redirect so that it takes users to their correct page. This is something that can cause a lot of concern as seeing this can make many think their MS accounts have been hijacked by someone in India. Thankfully not in this case, but annoying.

Hi there! Let's do our best to get this sorted out.

Technically, the website auto-detects our location based on our IP address. In some instances, it may default to some country like in the US. But as far as I know, once you go through the checkout process, it will give you the correct currency based on your account region and billing information if the product/service is supported in your country OR if it doesn't change, it would not show your payment method on your account unless you add a payment method that was issued on the same country of the store currency. In addition, you could get a geo-block error of your transaction if the store region and your physical region & account region don't match.

On the reference thread you provided above, it could happen if a person redeemed a code that was originated from another country. A redeemable code especially for subscription is linked to a certain country which cannot be changed.
