My left stick is only moving left when I’m not touching it at all.

Hi, I hope you're doing great despite the issue you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regard to your concern.

It may mean that the issue is the controller itself. Have you tried to connect the controller using a wired cable and then attempt to update it by following the steps below:

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Profile & system > Settings > Devices & streaming > Accessories, and then select the controller you want to update.

2. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.

3. If it says “Update,” select Firmware version, and then follow the steps provided.

O.k. so its not you or a ghost.

Your controller thumb sticks are controlled by actuators. there are 2 actuators on each stick. 1 for up-down movement and the other for left-right movement. these actuators wear out or get damage from abuse of the controller sticks over time.

You have only 2 options in fixing the drift movement.

1. you go and buy a new controller.

2. you fix the actuator part which is damaged.

The pro's and con's of fixing a controller yourself are as follows. You void all warrantee straight away. You must be able to follow very specific instructions on disassemble of your controller so you don’t break it whilst fixing the damaged part. You need a replacement part for fixing the damage.

COST: You need specific tools for openning up and repair and reassemble but these are super cheap sets, like about $20.usd for a full replacement job plus you have tools and spare parts for next time.

All this is possible. I have replaced about 12 actuators over 4 years of owning my Xbox Elite 1 controller and it works perfectly fine today. You can look up online fixes for actuator replacement which does not require de-soldering or intrusive technical electronics repair.

If you have a service dealer, you also pay their service to repair your controller too. But this costs money which may render it too expensive or not worth it.

If you do it yourself the cost is minimal.

If you buy actuators, they come in packs of 10. 1 is the size of you pinkie fingernail, super small so you need nimble fingers and tweezers to pull out the old actuator and put in the new one.

You also need a set of Xbox Controller Screwdrivers to remove the casings screws and refit them properly.

All this is available to the would be 'gamer techie' who wanst to save bucks on their rig.

None of this is difficult. Just take care, be patient and attentive to put the thing back together as you disassembled it as you are the technician fixing your stuff.

That's about it on this subject, however if your controller has other issues it may need to be replaced due to extensive wear on components which can be too expensive or difficult to replace. Some jobs are very tricky and be aware hold risk. This one does NOT.

You be the judge on what you think you can replace on the controller as almost everything can be replaced with new parts including the chip boards today. i am having the same problem, i tried syncing and everything, the dpad is not responding correctly and the left thumb stick with out touching it will move to the left on its own, i have to move the thumb stick to make it stop. Any other things i can try,
my last resort is sending it in for repair. (I have only had it for one week)

yes my left stick on my day one clicks when i move right then down and my titanfall stick now has a problem on call of duty or destiny if i move to the right i move fine if i move to the left i move slow
