My Headset Chat Mixer is greyed out and all I can hear is party audio I don’t know what to do

Let's do some troubleshooting steps. First, try updating your controller.

Go to settings > device > accessories > update controller. Once you update the controller, it updates it with the headset then you should have control of the mixer.

If that doesn't work, try turning your controller off and on while the headset is attached. Just hold the Xbox logo button for a few seconds then a menu will pop up then select turn off controller then turn your controller back on. Or unplug your headset and plug it in again slowly this time.

You play on your Xbox One? if so, do this :

Guide Button - System - Audio - Headset Chat Mixer

All the way to the left to only hear game audio, all the way to the right to only hear party audio. The middle notches are to mix it, so you can get a good game/party ratio that suits you.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately it hasnt worked. I still cant hear any game chat, and the chat mixer is still greyed out.

I should point out that if I plug my wired headset into my wireless controller, I can hear chat.

- Could you tell me what kind of headset and controller you are using? Some accessories, like controllers and headsets, override the Headset Chat Mixer due to having built-in audio controlling features.

- Besides the TV/monitor, do you have any external devices plugged into your console?

I was turning on my console and realized within a few seconds I can't hear any other audio other than party chat. Is this some sort of controller issue? I have had this issue a few times, and I simply unplugged my headset and plugged it back in and it worked,
but now no matter what I do, it won't work. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hey all, I fixed my controller, turns out you can't have your headset party chat mixer too high, otherwise you can't hear anything. Hopefully, this is helpful for anyone who has the same problem.
