My games are only installing from the network and not from the disc.

I believe it is up to the publisher if they want the game to install from the physical version first, or to install the whole game plus the update from the network first. The only way around this would be to ensure that your Xbox is not connected to your network when you begin to install the game from your disc.

For games like FIFA 22 and Call of Duty, it makes sense that since they are live games, the publisher now provides the most up-to-date version of the game when installing via the network instead of relying on the outdated version on the physical versions, as these are almost always the 1.0 versions of a game.

Regarding the size of your updates, I believe this is a reflection of adjustments that your system does after a download is verified by the system. Update files themselves could be 10GB, but further changes to your game files may be required that the publisher could independently determine is greater than the 7GB update, which is why there is a difference. While frustrating, there is nothing that can be done to "resolve" this discrepancy.

Hi Imp! This is a good question and, I hate to say it, but the answer is "yes and no." The game itself will just install from the disc, BUT, you will need to disconnect from the internet for this to happen. The reason for that is, when installing a game
while the network connection is active, the game will simultaneously download updates from the server and install them at the same time. By disconnecting from the network, it will ONLY install the game from disc, with no downloading.

NOW, having said that, unfortunately you will only be able to play Call of Duty offline until you are able to download and install the update, because the minute you connect to the network and try to play the game, it will tell you an update is required
before you continue.

Hey Blasta! It depends - are you installing while plugged into the network? If so, it's usually much faster to unplug from the network, then install the disc, THEN plug back into the network to allow it to run its updates. The problem is, when installing
while connected to a network, the game simultaneously installs from disc AND downloads and installs updates, which significantly increases the install time.

I don't know if this still works, but when the console first came out, you could fix installing from disc errors by going offline, either by disconnecting the cord, or through Network Settings. When you install from disc, I believe it still downloads information,
so going offline will force it to install from disc only

When doing disc install and there is an update you get a question to do that simultaneously.

- choose Later on that, so only disc install completes first

This way disc install will complete undisturbed.

Later there will be an update to activate from network later.

Never had issues with disc install doing it this way.
