My game is stuck downloading on 0%, I can't cancel it and it won't download anymore.

Hi All,

I am trying to download Tetris Effect, however game is stuck downloading on 0% and won't update, it also does nothing when I try to cancel the download.
I've attempted to restart the app, reset it from app settings and also uninstall and reinstall it, nothing has worked.

Has anyone run into this issue before and have any suggestions of how to fix?

Please see the screenshot of what the download screen looks like, and canceling doesn't work.

Pretty horrible company, huh?.... need an hour long phone call with support to fix a game that doesn't install or cancel installation... thanks for wasting my time Microsoft and Xbox

not helpful, it still is stuck on the pause and wont cancel.

Are you on Windows 10 or Windows 11?

First, make sure that your Windows is up-to-date. Check as well the updates from your Microsoft Store.

Let also clear your Microsoft Store cache: Press the Windows Logo Key + R to open the Run dialog box, type wsreset.exe, and then select OK.

Once done, try to repair/reset your Microsoft Store and Xbox app.

Alternatively, try to turn on airplane mode, wait for few seconds then turn it off and connect back to your network.

If you have a 3rd party anti-virus software installed, try to disable it temporarily and restart your PC. Or disable temporarily your Windows Defender real-time protection: Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security and then Virus & threat protection > Manage settings. (In early versions of Windows 10, select Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings.)
Switch the Real-time protection setting to Off and choose Yes to verify.

I had a very similar issue that bugged me for ages. In my case it was the Halo Master Chief collection that was stuck at 9% 0bps downloading.

Sorta following Kimmy_24's suggestion below, I started downloading the game through the Windows Store which kicked off downloading every game in the collection (still through the Xbox app), and then reset the Halo MCC download back to 0% and started downloading it again from scratch. At that point I was able to cancel all the downloads and they appear to have cancelled properly.

Very thankful to have the silly download not sitting there taunting me anymore.
