My external storage won't let me play games from it

Since I got my new xbox series x my external storage won't let me play games off it like I downloaded far cry 6 onto my external storage since my internal is full so I click on it and it come up with the message "Sorry, this game cannot be played from the external storage to play far cry 6,you'll need to transfer it to a storage card or this consoles internal storage"

The problem here Is I have no room to move the game to my internal storage that's why it's kn the external one so I'm in a bit of a pickle because it won't let me play games off my external and I can't transfer it to my internal because it full so any guidance on what I should would be great.

Any games that are Series S/X optimized can only be run from the internal drive or one of the expansion cards made specifically for those consoles.

You can move internal games to external that you don't play often

You gotta remember your external hdd only runs at 500mbps

Optimized games run at 12x that rate at 4.8gbps and designed to access cpu and GPU and memory dirextly which isnt possible with mechanical drives

Only xbox storage cards or internal memory run that

Same with ps5 you need next gen storage to run optimized games

Ive got an external storage device connected with games on but it wont let me select external storage for it to save too!

Thank you for that answer. So if I simply want to play it doesn't matter how much storage I have ? If that's so why won't the game allow me to go past the point of telling me there's not enough storage space ? And if I did purchase the external or other
is it easy to install?

I'm having the same issue! I bought an external 1TB drive to move my games to and have more storage since the latest update supports up to 2TB external storage. It formats but won't configure. Any suggestions?
